We are certificated in braille and transcribe according to The Rules of Unified English Braille and with the quality and consistency following Braille Formats Principles of Print-to-Braille Transcription.
When producing large print materials, we adhere to an individual's specifications. This is crucial since the font size, typeface clarity, color of fonts and backgrounds are correct to maximize readability.
There is a big difference between quality formatted braille and large print materials and those that are NOT...
What we do NOT use: There is new technology that braille companies are using that will take the text in a document and send it directly to an embosser (the braille printer).
These are less expensive alternatives, however, this technique does not format the braille correctly and even omits information for the reader.
It would be like providing a Latin print menu to a person who only reads English. With that that type of software, the content is not legible to the braille reader.
What we do NOT do: For large print materials, some practices simply enlarge the print on a copier machine. It only makes the entire document larger, and does not provide quality and accessibliy for the visually impaired.
We provide large print according to an individual's specifiations for font, size of text, color of text color of background for easier reading.
